An Uncommon Farewell

NeonSign
Yesterday we said goodbye to one of our favorite places, our downstairs neighbor, the Uncommon Grounds coffee shop, who as of today has turned off the java latte machine, packed up the chocolate covered espresso beans and, to our deepest regret, closed their doors.

Farewell
We gathered with our favorite Uncommon Grounds gals, Janice and Megan, along with many of their loyal patrons in an all day come-and-go farewell.

Everyone at Third Degree will especially miss them for lots of reasons:

CoffeeMugs
1. The warm cozy smell of fresh brewed coffee when you first walk in the building.

Chalkboard
2. Megan's bagels (nice and toasty), Megan's sandwiches (perfectly layered), Megan's soup (full of yummy ingredients), Megan's fulfillment of special requests (peanut butter toast and milk), and Megan's dry raised-eyebrow-response whenever Roy's being sassy.

UncommonGrounds
3. Meetings in the coffee shop are more fun than in a conference room

Scale
4. Bouncing on the huge iron scale in the floor from when the building was an old warehouse

Donuts
5. Always having donuts just an elevator ride away (poor Jeff).

6. Watching the Bricktown bicycle cops try to flirt with Janice.

7. Just seeing the same faces every day, even if they're people you don't know... but now you kind of wish you did.

What will you miss most about Uncommon Grounds?

Tara - I love the blog! Doesn't matter if I am on the phone, in the middle of 3 emails and reviewing notes all at the same time - I drop it all when I get a new blog notification!
Being a bit of a newby it allows me to experience some of the nostalgia that has helped mold the awesome culture of Third Degree.

How sad that they're out of business! They've been one of my favorites for a long time. May it rest in peace.

Congrats also on the blog! I found your blog via Kathleen Thomas; I was a VisComm grad with her.

I'll miss Megan playing great music (Arcade Fire? Awesome!).

I'll miss the Almond Mocha Crunch flavored coffee.

I'll miss walking towards the counter with my (environmentally-friendly) travel mug and Janice grabbing the steamed skim milk container and giving it to me on the side of the counter so I could pour my own for my coffee while she was making coffee for the other customers.

I'll miss telling people to "...enter off the building off the deck where the coffee shop is..." instead of "..where the coffee shop used to be."

I'll miss sharing the building with other people during the day, and the electricity and life that surges from a unique environment like Uncommon Grounds.

I will miss my beloved "Tara" sandwich, Hallie style modified with a wheat bagel and no mayo or mustard.

I will also miss the awesomeness of having java lattes, pop, lunch and sweets just a floor away when I need that lil something at 3:30 everyday.
